For this episode, I have the pleasure of welcoming Vanessa Sicotte.
Vanessa is a design expert and the founder of Damask & Dentelle, a digital platform dedicated to interior design. She is known for an approachable, vintage-inspired aesthetic and also hosts the Déco Thérapie podcast.
Before launching Damask & Dentelle, Vanessa first graduated in Marketing, then earned a Master’s degree in Art History from Concordia University, and worked in the corporate world, including at Louis Vuitton and Canon.
She created Damask & Dentelle after deciding to follow her passion for décor, and today she embraces a new professional challenge by joining the NATA PR team.
We are thrilled to welcome Vanessa, and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to invite her to the podcast for those who want to learn more about her impressive career transition.
Thank you for accepting my invitation, Vanessa.
I always begin with a very simple question for my guests:
1- Who are you, Vanessa?
I’m first and foremost a mom, a passionate woman, and a traveler at heart. These three aspects have shaped every facet of my professional practice in design and as a storyteller. I chose to build my career around one idea: our spaces are never neutral; they reflect who we are.
Through Damask & Dentelle, the books I’ve written, my TV years, editorial work, and podcast, I’ve found a way to share this passion and inspire others to create environments that truly reflect them—not by seeking perfection, but by finding a living, accessible harmony.
2- Can you tell us more about Damask & Dentelle and its name?
Damask & Dentelle was born from my desire to democratize design and show that everyday beauty is found in the details. Damask and lace are historic textiles, rich in tradition, but timeless because they reinvent themselves. They also represent a bit of our Quebec heritage—damask in English and dentelle in French. For me, they embody the blend of heritage and modernity that defines my vision of design: accessible, inspiring, and always grounded in real life.
3- How did your interest in public relations start?
I come from the design world and spent the first 20 years of my career connecting people. Very early, I realized that what gives meaning to a project is not only the object or the collection, but how it connects to people. Public relations is exactly that: storytelling that builds bridges between brands and communities. So, it was a natural evolution for me.
4- What has surprised you most about PR since joining NATA?
What surprised me most is how deeply PR is rooted in human relationships. Behind every press release, every strategy, there is a dialogue—a way to build trust with media, clients, and communities. PR requires listening to the pulse of the moment and knowing how to react at the right time. It’s this balance between long-term strategy and daily agility that has struck me the most and excites me enormously.
5- What would you tell brands that rely only on social media about PR?
Social media is essential, of course, but it doesn’t replace the depth of an article, an interview, or a feature. PR adds credibility and resonance that lasts over time. I would advise brands that the key lies in striking a balance between instant visibility and long-term reputation. PR is what anchors a story in the collective memory.
6- What are your main social media practices or priorities?
With Damask & Dentelle, Instagram and Pinterest are my primary playgrounds—they’re visual and allow me to create a cohesive aesthetic universe. However, I also enjoy LinkedIn, where conversations tend to be more professional and reflective. I see each platform as a room in a house: each has its function, but together they tell a coherent story.
7- Finally, what would you like us to wish you for the future?
To be of service to the wonderful NATA PR team for many years to come. I’d also say: to keep being curious and open to new encounters. PR, like design, is all about human connections. So, I hope the future brings inspiring projects, beautiful collaborations, and that little dose of the unexpected that makes every journey unique.
